im back in Buenos Aires after taking forever to get
here. I had to fly through Dallas, TX airport which wasnt too bad
actually. Immigration in Toronto for the U.S. was incredibly easy,
thank goodness. Although I fear on my way back I fly through Miami,
which I personally know, and it has a bad reputation on being tough on
Non U.S. citizens. :S so i'm a little worried there, but im sure i'll
be fine.
anyways so b.a. is beautiful. it's warm, not hot, and
sunny. true i only been here less than a day, but those are my
observations!
Anyways I finished reading Memoirs of a Geisha, which I highly
recommend. It's an easy read and a book written to help understand one
aspect of Japanese culture and history.
I just watched the trailer for the movie, and I don't think it will
give the book any justice. I think I will still see it, but seriously
watching movies after reading the books, I get sooo mad. But besides
the book, many of the significant leading female roles are played by
non Japanese women, mainly Chinese and I think I even say a Malaysian.
Anyways this is a movie based entirely on Japanese culture!! For that
respect they should of gone to Japan or even looked at English speaking
Japanese actors for the roles. Instead they cast the most famous Asian
actors they can find and recycle them into another Asian movie. The
main actress is Chinese, and you can tell by her freakin accent! What
idea is this going to give a Western audience? That all Asians are the
same.
Ok another thing, so should the movie be in English or in Japanese? I
could of gone either way. The book itself is written in English and
INTENTIONALLY written for a Western audience. You can tell this because
in the book they go out of their way to explain aspects of the geisha
life and the meaning of some japanese words they use. However in the
trailer, I simply have trouble understanding some of the actresses.
Their accents (furthermore the weird blend of different Asian accents)
get in the way of understanding what the characters are even trying to
say. So in this case, get some clear English speaking Japanese actors!
On the other hand, it could of easily been in Japanese too. Since in
the movie, I doubt they will go explaining things along the way, it
would of been more true to the culture to have it in Japanese. Since
some of the actors I can't even understand, I wouldn't mind reading
subtitles. And the people that know me know I can pretty much
understand people with accents, however since there are seriously
people in the movie that it is REALLY hard to understand. So it would
be better to get the message across, if it was all in Japanese with
subtitles.
Ok closing statements: I only saw some clips of the movie, I haven't
seen the whole movie yet, so many some of statements might become
false. I recomment the book if you want to learn something about
japanese culture. Although reading will only take you so far, so
watching the movie will help you see visually the same thing. From what
I read, beauty is part of the geisha culture, soooo visuals are
significant, because immigation only goes so far. So bascially do both,
use the other to see similarities and critisims.
Wow I wrote a lot this.... oh well. I welcome any outside opinions on
this subject. Or whatever. Eeveryone good luck on exams and stuff!

the Cutting Edge (52% dark, 61% spontaneous, 21% vulgar) | your humor style: CLEAN | SPONTANEOUS | DARK
Your humor's mostly innocent and off-the-cuff, but somehow there's
something slightly menacing about you. Part of your humor is making
people a little uncomfortable, even if the things you say aren't
themselves confrontational. You probably have a very dry delivery, or
are seriously over-the-top.
Your type is the most likely to appreciate a good insult and/or broken bone and/or very very fat person dancing.
